Controls and Functions

Main controls are located on the front and right side of the machine.

Front Panel: Stitch Selector Dial, Stitch Length Dial, Stitch Width Dial, Reverse Lever, Handwheel, Power/Light Switch.

Basic Functions: Stitch Selection: Turn dial to symbol/number. Stitch Length: Higher number = longer stitch. Stitch Width: For zigzag and decorative stitches. Reverse Sewing: Hold lever to backstitch. Tension Control: Dial on front (usually set to 4 for normal fabrics). Presser Foot Pressure: Fixed for general sewing.

Stitch Selection & Settings

Refer to the stitch chart on the machine or manual.

  1. Straight Stitch (Pattern 1): For seams and topstitching. Set width to 0.
  2. Zigzag Stitch (Pattern 2-4): For finishing edges, appliqué, or stretch fabrics.
  3. Blind Hem Stitch (Pattern 5): For nearly invisible hems.
  4. Decorative Stitches (Pattern 6-10): For embellishment.
  5. 4-Step Buttonhole (Pattern A-D): Follow the numbered steps marked near the dial.

Tip: Always test stitch settings on a scrap of your project fabric first.

Threading the Machine

Correct threading is essential for proper operation.

  1. Raise the presser foot and needle to highest position using the handwheel.
  2. Place spool on the spool pin.
  3. Follow the numbered threading guide: through thread guides, down, around the tension discs, up, and through the take-up lever.
  4. Thread the needle from front to back.
  5. For the bobbin: Wind bobbin evenly, insert into bobbin case with thread running counter-clockwise, pull thread through the slot.
  6. Pull up bobbin thread as described in First-Time Operation.

WARNING! Ensure the presser foot is raised when threading the upper thread to allow the thread to seat properly in the tension discs.

Basic Sewing Guide

Steps for a basic seam.

  1. Prepare fabric: Place right sides together.
  2. Position under presser foot: Lower the needle into the fabric using the handwheel, then lower the presser foot.
  3. Start sewing: Gently press the foot controller. Guide fabric lightly; do not push or pull.
  4. Secure stitches: Hold the Reverse Lever at the beginning and end of the seam for a few stitches.
  5. Finish: Raise the needle, raise the presser foot, and pull the fabric toward the back. Use the built-in thread cutter.

CAUTION! Never sew over pins. Remove them as you approach them to avoid needle breakage.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug the machine before any maintenance.

  1. Cleaning: Use the small brush provided to remove lint from the bobbin area and feed dogs.
  2. Oiling: This model is permanently lubricated at the factory. Do not oil unless specified in manual.
  3. Needle: Replace bent or dull needles immediately. Use the correct type for your fabric.
  4. Storage: Cover the machine when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

CAUTION! Do not use compressed air to clean the machine as it can force lint deeper into the mechanism.
