  2. Attach the foot control plug to the machine's port.
  3. Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC outlet.
  4. Install the needle: Loosen the needle clamp screw, insert needle with flat side to the back, tighten screw.
  5. Attach the presser foot: Raise the presser foot lever, snap the foot into place.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from the needle area during setup and operation. Ensure the machine is unplugged when threading or changing accessories.

First-Time Operation

Power on the machine; follow steps for threading and bobbin winding.

  1. Wind the bobbin: Place thread on spool pin, guide through bobbin winding tension disc, place bobbin on winder, push to engage, press foot control.
  2. Insert bobbin: Open the bobbin cover, drop in the bobbin with thread unwinding counter-clockwise, pull thread into the slot.
  3. Thread the upper thread: Raise presser foot and needle to highest position. Follow numbered threading path on machine, ending by using the automatic needle threader.
  4. Pull up the bobbin thread: Hold the upper thread tail, turn handwheel toward you to lower and raise the needle, pull to bring up bobbin thread loop.

CAUTION! Always turn the handwheel toward you (counter-clockwise) only. Never force the machine.

Specifications

Controls and Functions

Access controls via dials and levers on the front and side of the machine.

Front Panel: Stitch Selector Dial, Stitch Length Dial, Stitch Width Dial, Reverse Stitch Lever, Bobbin Winder Spindle/Stop.

Side/Body: Handwheel, Power Switch, Foot Control Jack, Presser Foot Lever, Thread Tension Dial, Needle Clamp Screw, Drop-in Bobbin Cover.

Basic Adjustments: Stitch Length (0-4 mm), Stitch Width (0-5 mm for zigzag), Thread Tension (0-9, 4 is normal), Presser Foot Pressure Dial.

Stitch Selection & Settings

Use the Stitch Selector Dial to choose from 23 stitches.

  1. Turn the dial to the desired stitch number (chart is on the machine or in manual).
  2. Adjust stitch length for longer/shorter stitches (higher number = longer).
  3. For zigzag and decorative stitches, adjust stitch width (higher number = wider).
  4. For buttonholes: Attach buttonhole foot, select buttonhole stitch, place fabric under foot, lower lever at back of foot, press foot control—machine sews automatically.
  5. Use reverse lever at the beginning and end of seams to lock stitches.

Tip: Test stitch settings on a scrap of your project fabric first.

Threading & Bobbin Winding

Proper threading is essential for good stitch quality.

  1. Bobbin Winding: Disengage clutch by pulling handwheel outward. Place thread on spool pin, guide through thread guide and tension disc. Place bobbin on winder, push to right. Hold thread end, press foot control. Stop when bobbin is full; push winder to left.
  2. Upper Threading: Raise presser foot. Follow numbered path: from spool pin, down to tension discs, up to take-up lever, down to needle. Use automatic needle threader: lower lever, hook thread, release lever to pull thread through eye.
  3. Drawing Up Bobbin Thread: Hold upper thread tail, turn handwheel toward you to lower and raise needle. Pull upper thread to bring bobbin thread up through needle plate.

WARNING! Ensure presser foot is raised when threading to open tension discs.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug machine before any maintenance.

  1. Cleaning: Remove needle plate screws, lift off plate. Use small brush to remove lint from bobbin area and feed dogs. Wipe metal parts with soft, dry cloth.
  2. Oiling: Apply 1-2 drops of Singer sewing machine oil to points indicated in manual (e.g., bobbin hook race) after every 8-10 hours of use. Run machine on scrap fabric to distribute oil.
  3. Needle Replacement: Replace needle regularly (after every project or 8 hours of sewing). Use Singer 130/705H needles size appropriate for fabric.
  4. Storage: Cover machine when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

CAUTION! Use only sewing machine oil. Do not use household oils. Never spray cleaners directly onto machine.
