Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place on a stable, flat surface.

  1. Remove machine from packaging: Carefully lift by the carrying handle or base.
  2. Attach hand crank: Align crank with shaft and secure with provided screw.
  3. Install needle: Loosen needle clamp, insert needle with flat side to the back, tighten clamp.
  4. Wind bobbin: Place empty bobbin on winder, thread through tension disc, and engage winder.
  5. Insert bobbin: Open bobbin case, insert wound bobbin with thread pulling counterclockwise.

WARNING! Machine contains sharp needles and moving parts. Keep fingers away from needle area during operation.

First-Time Operation

Prepare machine for sewing by following these steps.

  1. Thread upper thread: Follow numbered guides from spool pin to needle eye.
  2. Pull up bobbin thread: Hold upper thread, turn hand crank toward you to catch bobbin thread.
  3. Adjust stitch length: Set regulator to desired position (2.5mm is standard).
  4. Test on scrap fabric: Place fabric under presser foot, lower foot, and turn crank slowly.
  5. Practice reverse stitching: Engage reverse lever at beginning and end of seams.

CAUTION! Always turn hand crank toward you (counterclockwise) to avoid jamming.

Specifications

Controls and Adjustments

Primary controls are located on the right side of the machine.

Hand Crank: Main power control; turn counterclockwise to sew. Stitch Length Regulator: Dial with settings from 0 (shortest) to 4 (longest). Tension Dial: Numbered 1-9; higher numbers increase tension. Reverse Lever: Push to the left to sew backward. Presser Foot Lever: Raises and lowers presser foot.

Adjustments: Needle position fixed. Tension adjusted based on fabric type (lower for lightweight, higher for heavyweight). Stitch length adjusted for fabric and purpose (basting vs. permanent seams).

Threading the Machine

Correct threading is essential for proper stitch formation.

  1. Upper threading: Place spool on pin. Thread through first guide, tension discs, take-up lever, and final guides to needle.
  2. Bobbin winding: Place spool on pin, thread through guide, around tension disc, and onto bobbin. Engage winder until bobbin is full.
  3. Bobbin insertion: Open bobbin case door. Insert bobbin so thread unwinds counterclockwise. Pull thread through slot.
  4. Drawing up bobbin thread: Hold upper thread tail. Turn hand crank slowly until needle goes down and up, pulling bobbin loop up.

Tip: Always thread machine with presser foot raised to open tension discs.

Basic Sewing Techniques

Master these fundamental techniques for successful sewing.

  1. Starting a seam: Position fabric under needle. Lower presser foot. Turn crank slowly for a few stitches, then engage reverse for 2-3 stitches to lock.
  2. Straight stitching: Guide fabric gently with both hands, maintaining consistent speed with crank.
  3. Turning corners: Stop with needle down in fabric. Raise presser foot, pivot fabric, lower foot, continue sewing.
  4. Finishing a seam: Sew to end, reverse for 2-3 stitches, then raise needle and presser foot to remove fabric.
  5. Basting: Set stitch length to maximum (4mm) for temporary seams.

WARNING! Never pull fabric through machine; let feed dogs move it naturally.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Daily cleaning: Use small brush to remove lint from bobbin area and feed dogs.
  2. Oiling: Apply 1-2 drops of sewing machine oil to moving parts (crank shaft, needle bar) monthly.
  3. Needle replacement: Change needle after every 8-10 hours of sewing or if dull/bent.
  4. Storage: Cover machine when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

CAUTION! Use only sewing machine oil. Do not use household oils which can gum up mechanisms.
