Unpacking and Setup

Unpack all components carefully. Place machine on a stable, level surface.

  1. Remove protective packaging: Take off all foam and tape from machine head and accessories.
  2. Install needle: Loosen needle clamp screw, insert needle with flat side to the back, tighten screw.
  3. Wind bobbin: Place empty bobbin on winder spindle, thread through tension disc, engage winder.
  4. Insert bobbin: Open bobbin case, insert bobbin with thread unwinding counterclockwise, pull thread through slot.
  5. Thread upper thread: Follow numbered threading guide on machine from spool pin to needle.
  6. Connect power: Plug foot pedal into machine, then plug power cord into 120V outlet.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during setup and operation. Ensure machine is unplugged during needle/bobbin installation.

First-Time Operation

Power on machine; built-in light will illuminate.

  1. Test stitch: Place scrap fabric under presser foot, lower foot, gently press foot pedal to sew a few stitches.
  2. Adjust stitch length: Turn dial to desired setting (2.5 mm is standard for medium-weight fabrics).
  3. Practice reverse: Hold reverse lever to sew backwards for seam locking.
  4. Adjust tension: For balanced stitches, upper and bobbin threads should meet in fabric middle. Adjust upper tension dial if needed.

CAUTION! Always turn handwheel toward you (counterclockwise) to avoid timing disruption. Never force the handwheel.

Controls and Settings

Main controls located on right side of machine body.

Stitch Length Dial: Rotate to set stitch length (higher number = longer stitches). Reverse Lever: Push and hold to sew in reverse. Handwheel: Manual control of needle position; always turn toward you. Bobbin Winder: Push bobbin to right to engage winding; disengages automatically when full. Drop Feed Lever: Located near free arm; push to lower feed dogs. Light Switch: On/Off for built-in light (usually tied to power).

Tension Adjustment: Upper tension dial numbered 0-9; higher number = tighter tension. Start at 4 for balanced stitch.

Basic Sewing Operations

Follow these steps for standard sewing.

  1. Prepare fabric: Place layers under presser foot, aligning edge with desired seam guide.
  2. Lower presser foot: Use lever at back of machine.
  3. Start sewing: Gently press foot pedal; guide fabric with light hands, letting feed dogs move it.
  4. Secure seams: At beginning and end, hold reverse lever for 3-4 stitches.
  5. Cut threads: Use thread cutter on faceplate or scissors.
  6. Raise presser foot and remove fabric.

Tip: Practice on scrap fabric to get feel of speed control and guiding.

Advanced Functions

Utilize special features for varied sewing tasks.

  1. Free-motion sewing/darning: Lower feed dogs using drop feed lever. Move fabric manually in any direction.
  2. Gathering: Set long stitch length (4 mm), sew two parallel rows, pull bobbin threads to gather.
  3. Topstitching: Use longer stitch (3-3.5 mm) and heavier thread for decorative seams.
  4. Zipper installation: Use zipper foot (optional accessory) for close stitching next to zipper teeth.
  5. Button sewing: Use darning plate (optional) or drop feed dogs to sew buttons.

WARNING! When feed dogs are dropped, you must control fabric movement entirely. Practice on scrap first.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Daily: Brush out lint from bobbin area and feed dogs with small brush.
  2. Monthly: Remove needle plate and bobbin case; clean all lint; oil moving parts with sewing machine oil (2-3 drops on hook race and other points per manual diagram).
  3. Needle: Replace after 8-10 hours of sewing or if bent/dull.
  4. Exterior: Wipe with soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents or water.

CAUTION! Unplug machine before cleaning or oiling. Use only sewing machine oil; other oils can damage parts.
