Unpacking and Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place on a stable, flat surface.

  1. Remove machine from packaging: Lift carefully from carrying case.
  2. Attach foot controller: Plug into machine port (usually on right side).
  3. Connect power: Plug power cord into machine and then into wall outlet (110-120V AC).
  4. Install needle: Use screwdriver to loosen needle clamp, insert needle with flat side toward back, tighten.
  5. Wind bobbin: Place thread on spool pin, guide through bobbin winding tension disc, place bobbin on winder, push to engage, press foot controller.

WARNING! Keep fingers away from needle area during operation. Unplug machine when not in use or during maintenance.

First-Time Operation

Plug in power, turn on power switch (if present), and follow these steps.

  1. Thread the machine: Follow numbered guides from spool pin to needle, using built-in needle threader.
  2. Insert bobbin: Place wound bobbin in bobbin case with thread running counterclockwise, pull thread through slot.
  3. Raise bobbin thread: Hold upper thread, turn handwheel toward you to lower and raise needle, pull upper thread to bring up bobbin thread.
  4. Select stitch: Turn stitch selector dial to desired pattern (e.g., straight stitch).
  5. Test sew: Place fabric under presser foot, lower foot, gently press foot controller to start sewing.

CAUTION! Always start with needle at highest position. Do not force fabric; let feed dogs move it.

Tip: Test stitch on fabric scrap before starting project. Adjust tension if stitches are uneven.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug machine before cleaning. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Clean lint: Remove needle plate screws, lift plate, use brush to remove lint from feed dogs and bobbin area.
  2. Oil machine: Apply 1-2 drops of sewing machine oil to moving parts as per manual (do not over-oil).
  3. Check needle: Replace bent or dull needles regularly.
  4. Store properly: Cover machine when not in use to prevent dust buildup.

CAUTION! Use only Singer-recommended oil. Do not use compressed air; it can force lint deeper.
