Needles, Thread & Fabric Guide

Use correct needle and thread for fabric type.

  1. Needles: Replace regularly. Use Universal (80/12) for medium fabrics, Denim (100/16) for heavy fabrics, Ballpoint for knits.
  2. Thread: Use quality polyester or cotton thread. Match weight to fabric.
  3. Fabric Guide: Lightweight (silk, chiffon) – fine needle, lighter thread. Medium (cotton, linen) – universal needle. Heavy (denim, canvas) – denim needle, heavy-duty thread.
  4. Thread Tension: Adjust if stitches are loose (increase tension) or puckered (decrease tension).

WARNING! Always use the correct needle size. A bent or dull needle can cause skipped stitches or damage fabric.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Unplug machine before cleaning. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Remove needle plate screws and lift plate to access feed dogs and bobbin area.
  2. Use small brush to remove lint and dust from bobbin case and feed dogs.
  3. Wipe exterior with soft, dry cloth.
  4. Oil moving parts as per manual instructions (use only Singer-recommended oil).
  5. Replace needle after every project or 8 hours of sewing.

CAUTION! Do not use compressed air; it can force lint deeper. Never immerse machine in water.
