Unpacking and Setup

Carefully unpack all components and place on a stable, flat surface.

  1. Remove machine from box: Lift using handles; avoid lifting by accessory compartment.
  2. Attach power cord: Plug into machine rear, then into wall outlet.
  3. Install foot pedal: Connect to machine port, place on floor.
  4. Attach accessory tray: Slide onto free arm if removable.
  5. Insert needle: Loosen needle clamp screw, insert needle with flat side to back, tighten.

WARNING! Machine is heavy; use two people for lifting. Keep fingers away from needle area during setup.

First-Time Use

Power on machine; familiarize yourself with controls before sewing.

  1. Thread the machine: Follow numbered guides from spool to needle, use automatic threader.
  2. Wind bobbin: Place thread on spool pin, wrap around bobbin winder tension disc, press pedal.
  3. Insert bobbin: Drop bobbin into case with thread clockwise, pull thread under tension spring.

  5. Test sew: Use scrap fabric to adjust tension and stitch settings.

CAUTION! Always turn power off when threading or changing needle. Keep hands away from moving parts.

Stitch Selection and Adjustment

Select from 63 stitches for various fabrics and projects.

  1. Turn stitch selection dial to desired number (1-63).
  2. Adjust stitch length: Turn dial for shorter/longer stitches.
  3. Adjust stitch width: Turn dial for narrower/wider stitches.
  4. Set thread tension: Dial for balanced stitches (usually 4-5).
  5. Use reverse: Hold button to reinforce beginning/end of seam.

Threading and Bobbin Winding

Proper threading ensures smooth operation.

  1. Raise presser foot and needle to highest position.
  2. Place thread spool on holder, follow numbered guides to tension discs.
  3. Use automatic needle threader: Lower lever, hook thread, raise lever to pull through needle.
  4. Wind bobbin: Place empty bobbin on winder, wrap thread, push bobbin winder to right, press pedal.
  5. Insert bobbin: Open cover, drop in with thread clockwise, pull through slot and under tension spring.

WARNING! Always thread with presser foot raised. Ensure bobbin thread pulls smoothly.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

  1. Unplug machine before cleaning.
  2. Remove needle plate: Use screwdriver to access bobbin area.
  3. Clean lint: Use small brush to remove lint from feed dogs, bobbin case, and hook area.
  4. Oil sparingly: Use only Singer sewing machine oil on designated points (see diagram).
  5. Replace needle regularly: After 8-10 hours of sewing or if damaged.

CAUTION! Do not use compressed air; it can force lint deeper. Never oil plastic parts.
